Getting "Error HH11" when trying to run any Hardhat commands

Everything was working fine, but recently I started getting the following error:

Error HH11: An internal invariant was violated: Invalid http network config provided. URL missing.

For more info go to https://hardhat.org/HH11 or run Hardhat with --show-stack-traces

This error occurs when I try to run any Hardhat command, for example, commands like npx hardhat node

Can someone explain why exactly this is happening and how to resolve this error?
