here if you see the position the notation below says we are on white move number 30 (we are on 30.Rde1)
the next move is blacks move.
black main line move is 30...Bg2+.
but there's a variation in the notation which begins with 30...Be5 as indicated by arrow in the picture.
So here if we want to view the variation line, without looking at the notation pane, we just click on the bishop which exist on g7 Square & move it to e5 square then keep press forward to continue replay the variation line. (note this won't require from the user to focus on the notation pane)
this way, as a feature it will ensure the user won't miss variations.
another example for you..
blacks last move is 31...Rh3.
the next white move which is main move is 32.Kxg2 but there is alternative move (variation move) which you can find it in the notation as 31...Re7+ which is indicated as an arrow in the picture.

as i said this feature will be very useful when it comes to variation lines.
you just make the move like arrow says then continue replaying the game (replaying the variation line)
or you just press forward & keep showing main line.
