planet.scipy.org down #560
Comments
Thanks for flagging this issue, @pv. I suspect there are very few people using planet still, and that our efforts are better spent creating original content, such as on https://blog.scientific-python.org. |
Seems reasonable to me to do nothing now and wait for a bit to see if we get any complaints. Readership indeed declined steadily over time I suspect. I used to read it a lot, but checked it less frequently over the past few years and haven't done looked at it at all in about 6 months now. Thank you for maintaining this resource for such a long time Pauli 🙏🏼. |
It appears that I am one of those rare species checking planet regularly. I though this is a temporary malfunction. No complaint, but the suggestion to update the DNS so that it no longer produces a "security warning" when navigating to planet.scipy.org . Thank you very much for providing this service for a such long time already. |
planet.scipy.org is currently down. If it is useful to bring it up again, it should be moved to a different hosting. In principle it would be easy to e.g. on Github pages since https://github.com/pv/staticplanet simply produces a static web site, but I didn't set that up yet, and the DNS would need to be updated to point to its new home.
The reason for this change is that it was hosted on Netlify's "free" tier, and apparently that can actually get very expensive if you get DDOSed or similar. Luckily, nothing like that happened in this case, but it's better to find some other solution.
