Introduction

In v2.6, we introduced a new opt-in feature to our Chrome extension, in order to collect a small amount of compensation for the costs of our backend servers, without showing annoying ads or asking for users to pay or donate to us. This functionality is provided by VigLink, a web service invested by Google Ventures.

What will it do?

When you specifically enable the Support Us feature, some links that you are clicking on downloaded webpages will be added certain reference information. If you buy some products via these links (a.k.a. affiliated links), we might get a small commission fee from VigLink. For example, Pinterest is just benefiting from similar services as VigLink.

Important notes

  1. The VigLink feature is off by default and totally controlled by the user. It will function only if the user specifically enables it.
  2. Even if the option is enabled, it is configured to only work on insecure (HTTP-only) pages. Any sensitive data protected by HTTPS, such as Gmail, Facebook and online banking information, cannot be accessed. In addition, we specifically disallow this feature on education, government, organization and Amazon websites.
  3. Any existing ads or affiliated links on websites will not be altered or interfered. The advertisement incomes of the website owners or publishers will not be affected.
  4. Our extension never shows Ad Walls or pop-ups that force users to view or click. The user should barely notice the differences after enabling the VigLink option.
